SkillsTracer is a new application developed by Jigsaw Publications, to aid in student self-assessment, addressing the substantial level of inputs wasted in training delivery.
Students should not need to study topics of learning in which they are already recognised as competent, or pay for components of a learning resource which they have already covered.
In conjunction with a verifier/assessor, students build a database of 'skills' in which they have demonstrated competency.
Skills Packages (a cluster of ‘skills’ which a student may or may not already be able to demonstrate) are added to their SkillsTracer Toolkit. Against each skill in a Skills Package, students have the opportunity to give evidence. Their Verifier (lecturer/assessor) can then look at this evidence and make a decision about whether or not the student already has a particular skill.
If their evidence proves they can demonstrate a skill, there is no need for the student to study that skill again. If the verifier believes the student does not yet have a particular skill, SkillsTracer will enable the automatic creation and purchase of a gap-training resource containing only the information the student requires to learn.
